The East Busway is the most traveled of the busways. Under the ACT plan, it will be expanded to cover more communities beyond Swissvale. This may not make sense for some people, but the idea is to get to the eastern county line with the East Busway – therefore serving more riders with a reliable route. This may also gain new riders as there will be a direct, and efficient means to get to Oakland, or Downtown without having to drive, or find parking. The East Busway routes that serves every served station will a single number, and a single letter. This is important to know as Flyers are more restrictive to get people to Downtown in the morning, and home in the afternoon/evening. The additional stations are as follows:
- Braddock
- North Braddock
- East Pittsburgh
- West Wilmerding
- Wilmerding
- Wall
- Trafford
There are only a couple of routes that are not flyers. Since the East Busway is a BRT line, there is no need for more routes to serve most if not all of the stations. This will make sense as you would be able to see when reading this page. The routes that are not flyers are as follows:
- 1E: East Busway – Oakland
- E1: East Busway
1E: East Busway – Oakland
The 1E: East Busway – Oakland will operate through most of the East Busway. There will be a deviation by connecting to Oakland to assure that people on the busway’s line will be able to get to Oakland quickly and easily. The 1E: East Busway – Oakland will start at the Trafford Station, and will serve through Negley Station. Once it passes Negley Station, it will eventually turn on the Oakland On-Ramp to connect with Neville Avenue. The 1E: East Busway – Oakland will then connect with Fifth Avenue, and head towards Downtown until the 1E: East Busway – Oakland terminates at Craft where it will terminate and loop.
On the return trip, the 1E: East Busway – Oakland will make the first stop at Craft, and use the Fifth Avenue bus lane to go against traffic. Once the 1E: East Busway – Oakland reaches Neville, it will turn and return to the East Busway where the 1E: East Busway – Oakland will reconnect with the East Busway, and operate until reaching the Trafford Station.
E1: East Busway
The E1: East Busway will operate the entire length of the East Busway. Going to Downtown, the E1: East Busway will start at Trafford Station, and serve all the way through into Downtown. The E1: East Busway will exit the East Busway. The E1: East Busway will serve the same Downtown route as all of the East Busway flyers. The E1: East Busway will then return to the East Busway where it will serve every station to Trafford Station.
