There will be a number of routes to service Highland Park. With that said, Highland Park is given the designation of 16. In addition, Lawrenceville will be included with the Highland Park Designation. This is because there is only 1 route terminating into Lawrenceville, and there is no need to grant a complete designation just for one route. With that said, the routes are as follows:
- 16: Morningside
- 161E: Negley Short
- 162E: Highland Short
- E161: Negley
- E162: Highland
- E163: Friendship
16: Morningside
The 16: Morningside will replace the M Branch of the 87M: Friendship. The 16: Morningside will start at Stanton and Negley to connect to Morningside, and therefore connect to Lawrenceville Shopping Center via Butler Street. There is also the 301S: Ellsworth which will also serve Morningside, and can probably do much more service for those in Morningside. With that said, the 16: Morningside may not remain if there is not enough of a demand for this route.
161E: Negley Short / E161: Negley
The 161E: Negley Short will replace the 71A: Negley Short, and while the spirit of the route will remain, there will be some changes that will be made. The 161E: Negley Short will operate from Highland Park via Negeley Avenue, however where the 71: Negley Short will turn on Centre Avenue, the 161E: Negley Short will remain on Negley Avenue until reaching Fifth Avenue where the 161E: Negley Short will turn, and remain on Fifth Avenue to Craft where the 161E: Negley Short will terminate and loop.
The E161: Negley will operate much like the 161E: Negley Short, but will continue into Downtown through Uptown, and enter Downtown to follow the Oakland Corridor route. On the outbound trip, the E161: Negley will serve Forbes Avenue until Jumonville where the E161: Negley will turn and connect to the Fifth Avenue bus lane. Once the E161: Negley reaches Negley Avenue, the E161: Negley will turn to connect with Negley Avenue through Shadyside, East Liberty, and into Highland Park.
The frequency of the 2 routes will be designed to reduce primary services into Downtown, but still meet the needs of the community. There will be 2 161E: Negley Shorts followed by a E161: Negley. If this schedule does not meet the needs of the rider. The rider can board any bus route that starts with E to connect with Downtown. This could also mean using the Negley Station of the East Busway to connect to Downtown.
162E: Highland Short / E162: Highland
The 162E: Highland Short will start in Highland Park, and make a turn to connect with Highland Avenue. The 162E: Highland Short will then serve Highland Avenue to Fifth Avenue. The 162E: Highland Short will terminate at Craft Street. If the rider needs to go to Downtown, they can board any route starting with the letter E. All such routes will serve the same Downtown’s streets.
The E162: Highland will operate just like the 71B: Highland Park in its entirety. With that said, there will be no changes with the exception of turning on Jumonville to serve Fifth Avenue until reaching Highland Avenue.
The frequency of the 2 routes will be designed in a way to offer service, but reduce the number of primary routes to enter Downtown. There will be 2 162E: Highland Shorts followed by a E162: Highland. Anyone needing to connect to Downtown will connect with a route that starts with E.
E163: Friendship
The E163: Friendship will operate just like the 87S: Friendship. This will connect to Lawrenceville Shopping Center. For those that need to serve more of Lawrenceville will be able to board the 121E: Lawrenceville which will serve between 40th Street, and the Lawrenceville Shopping Center, or E301: Butler Street.
